Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis

“An Overview of the 8D Methodology”

Ed Hanker – Management Consultant / Facilitator / Instructor

We all now the colloquial definition of insanity…” Doing the same things over and over again, but expecting different results”. Root Cause Analysis using the 8D Methodology helps you avoid that “feeling of Déjà vu all over again” and identify, correct, and eliminate recurring problems, making it useful in product and process improvement. The eight disciplines (8D) model is a method with its origins in World War 2 which was subsequently formalized and improved by Henry Ford and the Ford Motor Company.

This problem-solving methodology is typically employed by managers, engineers and other professionals with ever increasing success in all types of industries and enterprises such as the automotive industry, healthcare, retail, finance, government, and manufacturing. The 8D problem solving model establishes a permanent corrective action based on statistical analysis of the problem and focuses on the origin of the problem by determining its root causes. Other key aspects of effective problem solving such as keen observation, patience, inquisitiveness and persistence will be addressed. Come join us an energetic overview of the proper use of the powerful 8D Problem Solving Methodology.
